Thank you for your interest in the Disaster Response Crisis Counselor program. To become a certified DRCC you must follow the 4 steps listed below. The expectation is that this process will be completed within 2 years. Certification is for 2 years from initial certification.
1. Complete Online Application
You can get to the online application by scrolling down to until you see:
Click the "create an application" arrow and follow the prompts. Every field needs to be completed, this includes, your home county, education, prior positions, any certifications or professional licenses that you hold, trainings attended, events you would like respond to, any language spoken, experience with special populations, any special skills and the 3 open ended questions. We will not accept your application if these fields are incomplete.
2. Trainings you must have for the DRCC certificate:
You must complete the four required trainings listed below to apply to become a Disaster Response Crisis Counselor. If you have already completed any of the listed trainings please log into your online application and add them under the training section. Once you have completed all trainings, please make sure you type your name at the bottom of the application and click on the red Submit button. If you don't submit your application it will not be processed. These trainings can be taken in any sequence!
Necessary Trainings:1. Introduction to Disaster Behavioral Health and Crisis Counseling
2. National Incident Management System (NIMS 700) /Incident Command System (ICS 100) Note: NIMS and ICS training can be taken on-line.
3. Cultural and Ethical Issues in Disaster Response and Recovery
4. Psychological First Aid

3. Ethical Standards
You also must sign and return the DRCC Ethical Standards Statement. Please sign, date, have a witness sign and date the last page of this document and fax it to the office at 973-239-8271.Click this link to get the Ethical Standards Statement.
4. Fingerprinting
Once you submit a DRCC application a fingerprint form will be emailed to you along with specific instructions.

Re-Certification Requirements
Once you receive your DRCC Certification, you are required to complete 12 hours of continuing education credits / response hours every two years in order to maintain the certification.
