Why take probiotics

Why take probiotics? The friendly bacteria in our gut is a hot topic in the wellness world, but you may still be wondering exactly what these supplements can do for you.

The World Health Organization defines probiotics as, “live microorganisms which when administered in adequate amounts confer a health benefit on the host.” So what are the health benefits? How can probiotics support our health?

More and more, research is exploring how the bacteria in our gut can explain our moods, and how the health of our intestinal flora is connected to the quality of our digestion and immune system.

Today, maintaining a proper balance of healthy gut flora can be difficult due to our exposure to antibiotics, chlorinated water, pesticides, chemicals used in food preservation, and chronic stress. If the delicate balance of our inner ecosystem is upset, opportunistic bad bacteria and organisms like yeast, fungus, and parasites are more likely to take up residence.

Balancing your intestinal flora is a powerful way to combat these threats and support your health. When we take probiotics, we help fight invaders, improve our nutrient absorption, increase our ability to detoxify, and reduce the negative effects of antibiotic use.

#1 Probiotics help fight invaders

Our gut is filled with hundreds of different species of good bacteria. A truly healthy gut will contain more good bacteria than cells in the entire body. This healthy gut flora is the first thing other organisms encounter in the digestive tube as they fight to protect their territory and prevent other organisms from taking hold. Another reason why you should take supportive probiotics  — they have important positive effects on immunity by helping the immune system fight invaders.

#2 Probiotics help Improve nutrient absorption

A healthy gut acts like a fermentation tank inside your body and it’s our intestinal flora that do the fermenting. Because they have different digestive systems from ours, beneficial bacteria can perform certain chemical tricks with food that our bodies can’t, alone.

One of their most important functions in the body is the production of crucial b-vitamins, specifically folate (B9), biotin (B7), and B12. These nutrients have to be pre-digested by bacteria before the body can absorb them. When we are not getting these nutrients, we can experience a variety of symptoms that seem to appear out of nowhere like low energy, brain fog and skin issues. Another simple reason why you should take probiotics is to ensure that you are getting all of the nutrients in your food that you need to thrive.

#3 Probiotics improve daily detoxification

The intestinal flora is arguably the largest detoxification component of the body and it’s something that can continually be replenished. In this sense, our flora serves as a satellite to our main elimination organ — the liver. To put it another way — if the gut didn’t have a well-balanced intestinal flora, the liver would have to work almost twice as hard.

So why take probiotics if you want to do a detox cleanse? Supporting our intestinal flora with supplemental probiotics can help to rid the body of toxins entering our air, food, and water. Probiotics, like lactobacillus, look promising in helping to detoxify heavy metals, and to prevent their absorption into the body.

#4 Probiotics improve symptoms during and after antibiotic usage

Antibiotics are a major destroyer of our bodies’ bacteria — bad and good. While our culture is beginning to become aware of the regular over-prescribing of antibiotics, children and adults are still regularly and frequently prescribed antibiotics for every kind of infection or potential infection.

Because this antibiotic regime starts early, far too many of us have always lived with compromised intestinal flora for years or even decades and have never been truly healthy.

Research suggests taking probiotics during antibiotic therapies is effective in preventing and treating antibiotic associated diarrhea as well as reducing the growth of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

The Big Picture: Why Take Probiotics?

Our understanding of the bacteria in our gut and the environment they live in is still evolving. Our understanding of how to properly re-populate the gut with good bacteria is even less complete. So, why take probiotics?

Taking probiotics has shown promising evidence that they can be very beneficial for our health. Their support in reducing the toxins we inevitably encounter day to day, modulating the immune system, improving digestion and nutrient absorption, and their ability to decrease typical symptoms of antibiotics are a few benefits we don’t want you to miss out on.

Energy healing sessions with Sahaj

Sahaj uses techniques that he learned and developed while living in Bali and his extensive experience in many systems of energy work, chi kung, shamanism and yoga. Sahaj’s sessions use gentle activation of energy points on the body, breathing and sound help to release deeply held emotions, memories and physical contractions that impede our ability to feel embodied on a sensual, psychological, emotional, sexual and psychic/spiritual level.
Our core energy is connected intimately with our sexual energy as it is the source of our vitality, creativity and clarity of mind. Often we create a kind of armor in our body that keeps us from being and feeling fully alive.
The healing session is a gentle, caring and nurturing way for you to de-armor the body and free the deep fountain of life force bringing your whole being in to lightness, joy and physical bliss.

Each session is lasts from 1 hours to 1.5 hours with ideally 3 or more sessions in total. The first session we find the ground and connect to your specific needs and begin to open up the energy. After establishing a relationship in the first session, sessions afterward help you go deeper each time.

7 Healthy living habits to establish in 2016

image

Healthy living doesn’t need to be complicated, but it often feels that way. What do I eat? How often should I exercise? How do I lose a few extra pounds?

But fear not, putting into practice a few clean healthy living habits in 2016 (like shifting how you eat food) can help you feel great all year long.

#1 Write down your healthy living goals

It can be easy to forget about your health if you don’t have a target to hit. Spend a few minutes thinking about the areas of your health you’d like to improve and then write them down. Make the goals clear and specific. Use a healthy commitment worksheet and put it where you can see it each day.

#2 Have a healthy Daily Shake

Drinking a delicious and healthy Daily Shake is our number one healthy living recommendation. These shakes are nutrient-dense, easy-to-make, and taste great plus they are one of the simplest ways to support your body’s natural ability to cleanse and detoxify, daily.

We love juice, but nothing beats the versatility of the shake. Get into the habit of having yours first thing in the morning, as a snack, or after a workout. Boost this healthy living routine with some daily supplements and you’ll be all set.

#3 Pay attention to the “big three”

Caffeine, sugar, and alcohol can be tricky to avoid because they often make us feel so good, at first. But each one has real downsides for your health such as spikes in cravings and loss of energy. Keep an eye on how you use these three in your daily life and do your best to crowd them out with cleaner options. Often adding in new and healthier foods is easier and more effective than using pure will power to restrict your food options.

#4 Do a detox cleanse once a year

A detox cleanse is one of the best ways maintain your healthy living goals. Dr. Junger tells us in Clean, “Almost every symptom we experience today, from skin issues and digestive problems, to fatigue, brain fog, and constipation can be connected back to the ability of our body to detoxify.” There are many more reasons to do a cleanse, but giving our bodies the gift of a cleanse once a year is the least we can do to show our appreciation.

#5 Break the sugar habit

Sugar and processed foods can wreak havoc on your liver and overall healthy living habits, but it’s not the easiest item to give up. The number one way we recommend to break the sugar habit is to eat enough calories from low-sugar Clean goods through the day — try focusing on adding in some healthy fats and protein. In addition to that, here are few more ways to break the sugar habit.

#6 Sleep Better

When we get busy, the first thing we often skimp on is sleep. But sleep is the cheapest and perhaps most powerful wellness tool we have! Sleep has been shown to improve all health indicators, including weight loss, mental performance, decision-making, and ability to fight illness. Improve the quality of your sleep with blackout curtains, a sleep mask, getting enough sunlight during the day, and using amber lights.

#7 Practice Gratitude

“Gratitude according to current research, can do anything from helping you achieve your goals more fluidly, to improving your skills of empathy and resilience.” It also happens to relax the body, reduce stress, improve digestion, and deepen our relationships. When you’re thinking about your health and what you want to improve, let’s not forget to give thanks for all that we already have and how far we’ve come.

THE GIFT OF GRATITUDE

Here’s something magical about gratitude. Few actions can so quickly bring a smile to someone’s face or immediately change the energy of a room. When someone appreciates us, it feels really good.
Gratitude just makes life better. It also happens to relax the body, reduce stress, improve digestion and deepen our relationships.
But, for many of us, gratitude doesn’t come easily, especially when it comes to ourselves. Maybe we feel like we don’t deserve it; we aren’t good enough; or we just haven’t given it that much thought.
Short-changing ourselves a dose of daily appreciation can limit how much joy we experience in our own lives.
Behavioral scientist BJ Fogg, head of the Persuasive Technology Lab at Stanford, found that healthy habits are much more likely to stick when we continuously appreciate the small wins we experience throughout the day, rather than waiting until a final goal is reached. He recommends literally patting yourself on the back with each tiny win. This physical appreciation helps us celebrate our progress while keeping negative self-talk from getting in our way.
There are certain times of the year where we receive gifts and the good feelings of mutual appreciation flow. What if we were able to feel that joy, everyday? What if we were able to access that joy constantly throughout our day? We can!
Have you ever stepped outside just as the rain clears? Turned onto a street of green lights? Do you have access to clean drinking water?
Feeling and exhibiting gratitude is a choice to view experiences as gifts within themselves and, like magic, our capacity for giving and receiving joy expands, exponentially.
Today, show someone (even yourself) a little gratitude. See what gifts will come tomorrow.

WHY SUPPORT IS THE KEY TO SUCCES

“Individual consciousness will refine you. Group consciousness will expand you.” – Yogi Bhajan

You have clear intentions about improving your health. You want to eat healthier, lose weight, and have more energy. So what stops you from achieving your goals? What holds you back?

The C9 program is a wellspring of solutions and guidance for a healthier lifestyle, but education, alone, is not enough. You can know all the answers – eat vegetables, drink water, exercise, sleep eight hours – but still not follow through.

All too often, we try to get healthy on our own, without the support of others. At first our motivation is high and we’re focused. But then our mood shifts, life gets challenging, and we lose our balance.

We’ve found that the willpower of a single person is often not enough to overcome persistent unhealthy habits. But being part of a wellness community can provide encouragement and advice when you need it most.

In fact, support from friends, family, your Healthy Lifestyle Coach, and your fellow cleansers is your key to succeeding. Releasing your self-control and allowing yourself to lean on others can be freeing and help you move closer to your goals.

It’s normal to feel shy or embarrassed to share your health journey with friends and loved ones. Start by sharing with me, your Healthy Lifestyle Coach. Support is 100% confidential and can ease some of the pressure you place on your own willpower.

We encourage you to share and ask questions online in our communitie on Facebook.

Talking to virtual strangers can often be easier than talking to those who know us best. By reaching out to others, over time, your role can change from student to teacher. Honestly sharing your personal experience is one of the best ways to keep morale high and motivation strong on the road to health.

Once you have the knowledge and feel inspired and supported to practice a healthier lifestyle, sharing this knowledge with friends and loved ones becomes the ultimate gift – one in which you receive support from those who matter most to you by opening up and sharing your journey.

We encourage you to reach out and tell your story. Your community wants to support you. Your loved ones want to support you. I want to support you. Together, we are all more likely to succeed on our journeys towards optimal wellness.
