Welcome to the Clan Macleod Society of Australia

The main purpose of our Society is to foster friendship between folk with a common interest - to not only learn about our origins, but also to gather together in the time honoured manner of hospitality and sharing that our ancestors enjoyed.

The Clan MacLeod Society in Australia dates back before the First World War, and the Victorian Branch was formed in 1912, before lapsing for some years and reforming again in 1951.  The main purpose of the Society today is to foster friendship between folk with a common interest - to not only learn about our origins, but also to gather together in the time honoured manner of hospitality and sharing that our ancestors enjoyed.

We hold a quarterly business meeting, at which we bring and share lunch and a pleasant afternoon at the homes of various members. Other activities during the year may include trips to Highland Gatherings and activities held by other Clans, ceilidhs, balls and picnics.

Every December, we usually meet at Hanging Rock, Victoria, for our annual BBQ, a good chat accompanied by a wee dram (or two) and the opportunity to celebrate our "Scottishness".

It is a strange and mysterious thing that most people of Scots descent, no matter how many generations spent in other lands, have a deep longing for their roots. In the hauntingly beautiful words of the anonymous author of the Canadian Boat Song, one verse sums it up:

"From the lone shieling of the misty island, mountains divide us, and the waste of seas;

Yet still the blood is strong, the heart is Highland, and we, in dreams, behold the Hebrides."

Know, therefore,  that you are welcome, one and all, to join with us and celebrate our mutual love of the Clan, the plaid and the pipes of our far distant homeland - who knows, you may even find some relatives!

You will certainly make new friends and share many enjoyable outings in company with kinsmen and women and, most of all, you could have something to contribute to our group that would enrich us all.... for isn't our diversity the tapestry of our lives?

We look forward to your company in our midst!

Remember above all else to HOLD FAST.
