Our story
Our mission
The Dwelling Place is a nonprofit, Adult Family Home in North Central Washington state.
Through the invaluable support of our partners and our many friends, we are modeling what it can look like for adults with developmental disabilities to live rich, purposeful, and socially integrated lives, and to make valued contributions to their communities.
Our brotherhood of founding residents, known around town as The Five Amigos, have bravely pioneered a path of vibrant and independent living that is making the way for others to do the same.
What we do.
Empower living.
The Dwelling Place is a tight-knit, loving, and fun community of caregivers and residents who have shared life since 2002.
Physical, emotional, and spiritual support empower these men through every day. Achieving their dreams and goals, working meaningful jobs, exploring sports, hobbies, and relationships frame our days together.
Secure the future.
As residents embark on the second half of life, they are helping to establish new models concerning how to care for and support independent, aging adults with developmental disabilities.
The Dwelling Place is committed to maintaining quality of life and continuity of relationships as people age in place.
Share the vision.
We regularly share our story, experiences, and advice with others establishing Adult Family Homes like ours, or who want to explore the possibilities.
The community of Leavenworth is remarkably supportive in partnering with The Dwelling Place and, hopefully, this joyful home will be an inspiration to other communities, as well.
