Biography

The Italian pianist Luca Monti studied at the Conservatory in Terni with Elio Maestosi, at the Hochschule für Musik in Zurich with Jürg von Vintschger and, finally, at the University of Music in Vienna with Professor Noel Flores. In addition, he has also attended master courses with Vera Gornostaeva, Hans Graf, Vlado Perlemuter, Harvey Shapiro, Rudolf Buchbinder, and Sergio Perticaroli.

Achieving technical perfection and finding his own individual style were the essential aims of his musical education, during which he has also been acclaimed internationally: he is prizewinner of a number of prestigious competitions, such as the "Beethoven Piano Competition" in Vienna in 1989 and 1993, Casagrande-Italy, Senigallia, and ARAM Rome.

Vienna forms the basis for his career which takes him to festivals and concert halls all over the world such as the Musikverein and the Concert House in Vienna, the Bruckner House in Linz, the Hamburg Concert Hall, the Teatro Ghione in Rome, Teatro delle Erbe in Milan, Portogruaro Festival Italy, the Ansermet Hall in Geneva, the Izumi Hall Osaka, Casals Hall Tokyo, Menton Festival, Gstaad Festival, Dubrovnik Festival, Divonne Festival, Bregenzer Festspiele. He performed with a large number of orchestras such as the Niederösterreichische Tonkünstlerorchester, the Orchestra Pro Musica Salzburg, the Orchestra of Salta-Argentina, the Orchestra of Byalystok-Poland , the Orchestra of San Remo-Italy (Nyman), the Zagreb Philharmonic, the Orchesterverein Vienna (Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms and Rachmaninoff in Wiener Musikverein), the F. Ferrara Orchestra, the Orchestra da Camera dell' Umbria and the Amadeus Ensemble.

Besides having an intense career as a soloist, Luca Monti is also deeply involved in chamber music: he has won numerous 1. prizes in international competitions with the "Ison" Trio (including the "International Osaka Chamber Music Competition" – Japan and the International "J. Brahms Chamber Music Competition in Pörtschach"- Austria).

The Haydn Chamber Ensemble was founded as a classical piano trio on the initiative of cellist Hannes Gradwohl together with violinist Cornelia Löscher and pianist Luca Monti in 2013 and is based in Eisenstadt and Vienna.

Luca Monti's main partners are the soloists Anton Sorokow, Julian Rachlin, Dora Deliyska, Christoph Stradner, Alexandra Soumm, and mainly members of the Wiener Philharmoniker, the Wiener Symphoniker and the Wiener Kammerorchester.

Today Luca Monti lives and works in Vienna, which has now become his adopted home, and where he teaches piano at the University of Music and Performing Arts (MDW) and chamber music in Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna (MUK).
