Insights and Panoramas From May 18 until August 28, 2011 Museum Plantin-Moretus/Prentenkabinet awards the audience a glimpse into the mind and working process of Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven for the presentation "Insights and Panoramas". The Antwerp contemporary artist designed the light panels in the promenade boulevard of the MAS | Museum Aan de Stroom. For this 'modern procession for the MAS', Van Kerckhoven based her work on a 16th-century emblem book from the library of Museum Plantin-Moretus/Prentenkabinet. The interpretation of the light panels in the MAS-boulevard is a contemporary art project. Each year a national or international artist is invited to make a design. The assignment is to make light panels that are worth looking at both from a distance (outside the MAS) and nearby (in the MAS-boulevard). Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven, an Antwerp artist with an international reputation, was first sought. She was inspired by a 16th-century Italian book of John Pierus Valerian she found in the archives of the Museum Plantin-Moretus/Prentenkabinet. Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven (b. 1951) combines computer art with drawings, text, sound, video and painting. The relationship between art, exact science, politics and social sciences is central in her work. By examining knowledge systems and relating them to another she offers resistance to the ubiquitous chaos of modern life. Over the years, Van Kerckhoven has produced a fascinating and complex multimedia oeuvre.
