An Indian Legend Says:

"When a human dies there is a bridge they must cross to enter into Heaven. At the head of the bridge waits every animal that human encountered during their lifetime. The animals, based on what they know of this person decide which humans may cross the bridge........ And which humans are turned away"

Bucktail Run is a small private boarding farm that is dedicated solely to retired horses. Since we don't have a lesson program and we are not a training facility, we have a tranquil and serene atmosphere, perfect for those needing a quieter, relaxed life.

Sometimes, traditional boarding facilities can not manage retirees. It isn't an easy task. A common misconception is that retired horses are easy: you feed them and turn them out, that's it. But that's far from the case.

Retired horses often need more when they retire than they did when they were in work. They have different nutritional needs, often requiring supplements and medical treatments daily.  Retired horses may require more (or less) turnout and may need to be out alone, or on a drylot because they can't have grass, or even out with a quieter less physical group or buddy.

When you retire a horse, it is not an easy decision but you want it to be an easy transition for your horse. Retired horse don't need an expensive fancy indoor; they don't need to be where the best trainers are. They need to be in a facility where their care is top priority, and not secondary to the horses in training or competing. Your horse deserves to be cared for by someone who knows how to care for older or injured horses and is dedicated to making their retirement years happy years. You wouldn't board your reining horse at a dressage barn or your barrel horse at a hunter jumper farm so why board your retired horse anywhere else but a retirement farm?

That's why we chose to make Bucktail Run a retirement boarding facility. We wanted to offer owners an affordable option for their retired horses who can no longer work, because today there are some scary options for the retired horse. If you choose to board your horse here, you will have the peace of mind of knowing that your horse is being cared for by loving people who are dedicated to the health and happiness of your horse.

With unlimited hugs and scratches, care managed by an equine vet tech that lives on site, and dedication to making your horse's life comfortable and peaceful, why wouldn't you choose Bucktail Run for your retired horse?
