I had called 6 different electricians and you and one other were the only ones to call me back. The one I didn't hire wasn't licensed for multi-unit buildings, he told me that up front and I appreciated his honesty. You required to be paid before you even showed up to show your value, is a business model that I completely disagree with. Your statement was, "we are committing to sending 3 people out so we want a commitment from you". You were my only choice, and, had I had another I would have never hired you. I was only here for two weeks and had many contractors scheduled to do work and wanted the electrical systems in our house checked. Dan was condescending on the phone, telling me I'm "putting the icing on the cake first" because the painters were already scheduled, that the electrical should come first because you may need to tear out drywall and then I would need to have them patched them up, totally out of the realm I was looking for. You never really bothered to ask what I was doing, why I was doing it in the order I was. Perhaps you should ask more questions before making uninformed statements.
Three of you showed up for the appointment. I feel like I paid $1250 to be sold to, one person to do the work and the other two were here to sell me electrical services I didn't need. And for that amount of money I would have at least expected a written report stating what was checked and the condition of each item, good, bad or ugly, with recommendations. Maybe that's a liability for you to actually document what was or wasn't examined. On the phone I was told you would correct anything and do any work that didn't require equipment to be purchased. You told me the person doing my tear out could remove the security system, that would be me! You knew I wanted that done, I should have asked you to do it, so shame on me. It did not require any additional purchased components to be removed. Bobby did all the testing while Dan and Howard used rudimentary, old school, emotional scare tactics to convince me I needed things that were not necessary. I recognized every one of your sales pitches as I've had more sales training than anyone person should. And Howard, no one cares how many degrees you have, all we wanted was an honest electrician, not a plumber or a heat pump installer which we had already hired. And you should not be making negative comments about your competitors. Telling me I needed 6 -7 wired smoke/carbon detectors to bring the house up to code is incorrect and you must be aware of that. The house is at code for the time it was built. And $6000--$7000 for a new electric panel is insane. I am still waiting for the quote Dan was going to send me. By the way, my heat pumps are installed, running beautifully and I didn't even need a sub-panel. With your current business model I can see why you were the only company to call me back and available with short notice. I understand you want the big expensive jobs, it's like being a luxury real estate agent, which by the way I am, but I work in all price ranges as those small sales ultimately turn into really big ones. I would think your business is a relationship business like real estate. I hope you find your ideal customers with deep pockets, that is just not us.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kathy W.Palm Bay, États-Unis0124 oct. 2023
Work done was good but pricing very deceitful. Parts were less than $100. And on site less than an hour. $1762.00! Arrogant doesn't even describe the electricians attitude. Wouldn't answers any questions. Very condescending and rude. I have owned income properties for 40 years and this was the worst service visit I have EVER had! Would not recommend this company to my worst enemy.

Used Homewiz for bathroom vent install. Honestly, I was not impressed by the quality of work. Left a mess in my attic and basement. Seems like a hit or miss with this company (see photos for details).
If you are skeptical Google H.O. Services in Belmont. This company looks like the same owner and similar business practices just rebranded. Again maybe you get lucky, but ask yourself if it's worth the chance...
Update: Since posting my review on google, someone representing the company has barraged me and my family with calls accusing us of slander and threatening to slander us if we didn't delete the review. If someone from the company is reading this, if you continue to call and threaten us we will make this a legal matter.Helpful 8Thanks 2Love this 1Oh no 0 - 573305715 déc. 2019Avis mis à jour
I have a new experience with Howard Oven! I got another letter from the same attorney with threatening language asking me to contact him. He assured me in the letter that he really was an attorney. Do real attorneys have to do that? He also asked me to call him. Funny, last time I called his number, someone who sounded exactly like Howard Oven picked up. Sadly, I know Howard's voice very well because of all the harassing phone calls he made to me.
If you read "not recommended" reviews here or on his "H.O. Services" profile, you will see that this is his normal m.o.
What Howard does not seem to have grasped is that if you do not want bad reviews, you should not treat your customers badly. He also seems unaware of the fact that there is nothing wrong in writing bad things about a company if those things are true.Helpful 10Thanks 2Love this 2Oh no 019 nov. 2019Avis précédentLook at the reviews for H.O. Services in Belmont as well before you call this company. It's the same company. The charges on my credit card even said "H.O. Services" on them. Also please look at the "not recommended" reviews on this company.
My other warning is that you should not pay this person/company before he does any work on your house. If you do, unbeknownst to you, you will be signing something that says you are satisfied with his work that he has not even done yet! Also, do not get taken in be his $880 "level three diagnostic" charge that he will try to get you to pay just to tell you how much he is going to charge you for the actual job. Also know that you will not get any sort of written estimate or receipt.
I called Howard to have him come look at a ceiling fan that was blinking on and off, and also do some re-wiring on my kitchen for my disposal. He had me sign for the $880 "diagnostic fee" (yes, I am an idiot and did not realize how outrageous this was), then had to be reminded to even look at the fan. He barely looked at it, then claimed it had not been installed by an electrician and said he could not fix it. It had been installed by a real electrician, and I had someone else come out afterwards who fixed it for $70.
He then complained constantly as he did my kitchen wiring, and asked me to write a good review of his work. I foolishly decided to be kind and did the review. He later used this review against me when I tried to complain about him to my credit card company, the better business bureau, and the Attorney General's office.
When he found out that my drain was also clogged, he claimed he could fix that too, for an additional $500. he could not. By this time my bill was about $1600.00. He then refused to come back and finish the drain job unless I took down my revised, very poor review of his business. He also claimed that the call was being recorded. He even threatened to report me to the bureau of inspection because supposedly all of the wiring in my home was not up to code! ???!!!! not sure how he could have known about all of the wiring in my house - maybe that level three diagnostic test ??! Funny because it was just a reading on a meter that he pulled out of his bag, and it took less than a minute.
I still kept up my bad review, and got some harassing calls from him. I also got a call from him saying an inspector was coming., so I called the Bureau of Inspection to see if this was true, and it wasn't. I did not answer when he came by with whoever was supposedly an inspector, and never heard about that again. I did get a letter supposedly from a lawyer regarding my review of HomeWiz, threatening to sue me. I took it to the police, who said it was bogus.
Dealing with Howard and his son was an extremely unpleasant experience that cost me a lot of money that was not at all well-spent. it did inspire me to start using Angie's List, though. I also learned not to believe reviews that people have on their own websites.
In fact, I recommend going to Angie's list rather than just trusting Yelp reviews. - Hannah B.Portland, États-Unis10958 avr. 2022
I called Homewiz to fix 4 outlets in a room where they had stopped working. I was charged $462 before they even showed up to do the work (Red flag #1). One additional outlet was faulty that I asked Howard to look at. He said it would cost another $462. For ONE singular outlet. When I said I had to talk to my husband who wasn't home at the time, he suggested I call now since they're so busy. I called, he didn't pick up, so I made the decision to pay since I figured it would be a big job given the price. It was done in under 20 minutes, and he wouldn't do the work without charging me first. Ultimately, I felt pressured into it.
I paid $924 for less than an hours worth of work. I feel like we were a bit ripped off. They got the job done, but I will not call them again.Helpful 4Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 0 - Romain V.Winchester, États-Unis0225 mai 2023
Worse experience ever. The 2 guys running this company are just after your money. Do not take their annual service, they barely touch your a/c. Basically you are paying for them to change the filter. They were supposed to service the electrical panel and the drain. I never knew what they really did. As a premium customer they offered me an emergency service call at 800$ !!!!

The worst customer service I'v had in my life!!
They asked you pay upfront with a check, then NEVER finished work on time and it's very difficult to get them finish the work once you paid in full upfront while they are fishing for other projects. They would also find excuses to delay your project even if you overpaid the service. The poor quality of their work just unbelievable. Worst people I had ever dealt with. Becareful.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Chris H.San Francisco, États-Unis10847 juin 2021
This was honestly the worst customer experience I've had in over a decade. I called Homewiz because I had a dishwasher that would not power on. If you still decide to contact them, do NOT pay these people up front. I foolishly paid $462 for a diagnostic and after less than 12 minutes, Howard concluded I had been hit by a power surge and my dishwasher needed to be replaced. He said it was either lightning or a solar surge and all the computer chips were fried. He then began looking up dishwashers on his phone to order. No details were provided on what drove him to this conclusion or what tests he ran. I'm suspecting he just saw an older dishwasher and assumed it needed replacing without actually figuring out the problem. At that point I asked him to leave and called the main Homewiz line to complain. I spoke with a person Dan who was extremely rude and belligerent. Even though my older Maytag dishwasher doesn't even have computer chips, he still tried to justify the diagnosis because power surges are a common thing.
Fast forward a few weeks, I had to call an electrician again because after replacing the dishwasher it would not power on. I hired another team and they were quickly able to find and fix an issue with the outlet connecting the dishwasher. They also fixed my attic lights, a broken outdoor sensor and installed a garbage disposal switch. All of the this for a reasonable price of $527. This included parts and labor and I was only made to pay AFTER the quality job was done.
Please be aware Homewiz is just a rebrand of H.O. Services. If I had known about all the horrible reviews I never would have called. Don't make the same mistake.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Muriel M.Belmont, États-Unis49427 janv. 2018
My lights were out in the kitchen. They charged me 880 dollars for under an hour of work. They told me that the problem was that the person I had hired was not a licensed electrician. BTW, I checked, there was no unlicensed work, it was all licensed.
Anyway, they tripped the circuit, which got the lights back on, but they did not replace the lamp or give me an estimate for doing so. They told me that they could install extra lights in my kitchen for "only" 3600 dollars and they could do it "right away". I told them I needed to think about it.
Less than a week later, the same problem arises. I look at the lamp - it is clear that there is a problem with the lamp, and that must be the short that it causing the problem.
I call and they tell me that the charge was for a diagnostic only.
After some back and forth on the phone, the technician contacts me back and tell me that I misunderstood him. He says that he will replace the lamp if get a new lamp. I tell him that is fair, I ask to repeat to confirm as the connection is poor. He then says that he does not want to do it, because I am mean. Then he says again that he will do the job. Then he says he will not do it because we do not get along.
The man on the phone was staggeringly rude. Unbelievably so. Really trying to intimidate me.
I wish I had looked at Yelp and seen all the one stars. Truly disastrous. Stay away. This is highway robbery.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Information sur le responsable du commerce

Muriel, we contacted the Town of Belmont Building Dept. and we are 100% correct that no permits were filed and no inspections have happened in your home since the early 90's. Whereas you told us you have only been in that house for a couple of years that would make all the electrical work (not done by us) illegal. When we left your home the problem was rectified and we stand by our work and warrantee all of it. When you called us irate that the problem had reoccured we said we would come out for free and continue to diagnosis the issue and even hang a new light FOR FREE is you picked one up for us. We do thrive on our great customer service but it was you who told me that you did not wish to have us back out (for free) but had already contacted another electrician. I know it can be an overwhelming process hiring a contractor, especially when the one you hired previously had light switches upside-down, deadshorts in your kitchen and even left switches and lights not working in bedrooms as you showed us. At the end of the day you need to trust someone and calling the town will probably restore your faith in us and let you know we were doing the right things all along. We wish you the best.

We needed work done and were having trouble getting anyone to show up. Dan and Howard were the only electricians who actually came to quote the job and had availability nearly immediately. They're genuinely decent guys and like what they do. They may not be for everyone but that's fine.
They're really not the cheapest option but they did the work in a time frame that made sense for me. I can never get electricians to follow through on their quotes so this was huge to me. We didn't want to spend weeks coordinating and appreciated they could fit our job in in under 2 weeks.
My only complaint is that they put Home Whiz stickers everywhere they went... on my electrical box and heating system. When you're paying for a job in the $$$$ range, a little bit of tact is appreciated. You obviously got my business... don't push it.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Information sur le responsable du commerce

Thank you very much for the kind words and taking some time to put them online! We apologize if the warrantee stickers were too much. We use those so that any technician in our company knows to pull up service records in our software and also so that customers don't forget who to call if there is a problem with our work. With that being said, we would be happy to send a technician out to take the stickers off if you'd like! We look forward to hopefully getting the opportunity to work for you again. Cheers.
