Meet Sarah
Founder, Creative Editor and Portrait Photographer
Hello my friend. I'm Sarah DeShields, a Scottish lassie who moved to America sixteen years ago to marry my North Carolina man and raise two wild and wonderful boys.
With a degree in Communication Arts, a certification in Spiritual Direction, and my camera always by my side, my philosophy of ‘following the breadcrumbs’ in life has led me to where I am now as an artist focusing on fine art portrait and wedding photography here in Boone, North Carolina.
I’m passionate about authentic artistic exploration that weaves in with the beauty of being human. I am currently studying expressive arts therapy, and believe that the arts are a way of healing. I have been a songwriter for as long as I can remember, and am always whittling away at new ways to explore lyricism and truth telling through stories and song. I love creative expression, I also need to retreat and replenish quite often. That’s why the wild hills of Appalachia and the barren lands of my homeland Scotland are places of nurturance.
When you book with Enowen Photography, I am your point person to guide you through the whole process, wether you’re stepping over the threshold into getting married or commissioning branding or portrait photography. To be present with you in your journey is a deep honor, and I will take gentle care of you from beginning to end.
MEET SAVANNAH
Wedding Photographer
I’m Savannah McAffrey. I’m mother to a dear little boy, and wife to my darling husband of almost 7 years. I hail from Charlotte, NC. I’m North Carolina raised, spending most of my childhood on a small town farm, and this place has my heart. It is my home in every way. While I am from the piedmont, the hills are where my soul sings. I head up the mountain with my family every chance I get, in every season, for there is beauty to be found at any time. I find restoration and peace of mind in nature. An icy river swim, a rocky hike upward, and a picnic in a sweet grassy meadow with people I love are all joys in my life.
Photography is another joy and a true love. It’s been a part of me since I discovered my mom’s old film camera in middle school. Photography offers purity of emotion and memory like nothing else. A moment that may have been otherwise forgotten can be preserved on our walls, evoking all the feelings of that time, and that is a gift. I care deeply about capturing people in whatever moment they are in, because each version of oneself matters. These days will soon become the good ol’ days, and I want to remember them.
I always strive to offer warm hospitality in my work, and to create true and genuine art together by inviting folks to be fully themselves in every moment. It’s a privilege that I’ll never take lightly, and I love every second.
