Is it normal for Depo's to fog up? Also, one xenon not coming on at times?

Just drove my car in the rain for the first time yesterday with the new Depo Gen4's w/angel eyes and xenons from DDM and noticed that they "fogged up" on both sides I had a local guy install these for me and the backs are sealed tight and everything. I replaced the ZKW's with DDE's that were on there before and over the 3 years those were on they never fogged up...

Also, I've got the 55w xenons in there and I noticed (it's happened about 5 times now) that every now and then the driver's side xenon won't turn on and I get a low beam failure message (if I shut the car off and wait a moment then restart it the headlight normally comes on) this never happened with my zkw's and 35w prolumens, I know they're connected right so is this an issue with running the 55w ballasts?

I've been waiting to get a call back from Marcus (about a seperate issue with the passenger side corner bracket being broken when I received them) to discuss it with him but I'm guessing they're really busy there. I'm pretty dissapointed how these are turning out for me vs the ZKW's so I'm trying to see if these issues are common to the depo's and 55w from other members who have them

Search the lighting section for a fix to the fogging up issue.. it involves loosening them up a bit if I remember correctly.

It should fire up every time though, one of the ballasts may be going bad if it's not lighting up every time. I had the same issue with my passenger side not always lighting up, sent it back, got a new ballast, and everything has been fine since then.

    Good question!!

My depos fogged up when I first got them. I drove around with the low beam bulb cover pulled off for a few days and the moisture disappeared. I also grabbed some dissent packets out of some shoe boxes at target and threw them inside the lights... moisture free ever since!

The ZKW's were put in by the PO, I wanted to set these up differently and go with the 55w so I went with the Depo's. I've had the depo's before (the first generation I guess? It was when they first came out almost 4 years ago) and I never had any fogging issues, is this a gen4 issue?

Putting disiccant packs in headlights, wtf? Driving without the backs on? Wtf?

I was going to use dessicant packets on my depo's on my e36, but instead I took a 4x4 inch piece of cloth and filled it with rice, pulled all of the corners in and rubberbanded it.

It just seemed that rice would be much more appropriate at the time.

I think it happens more often when the headlights have been opened up and resealed for angel eye install!

I just left my low beam covers off over night in the garage and then temporarily threw the dissent packets in for a few days. I think as the sun heats up the silicone and everything settles they seal up better cuz my lights have been moisture free for quite some time, despite driving in the rain or blasting them with the hose (just to make sure the moisture wouldn't come back).

i just installed my apexcones and the passenger projector is all fogged up. so best way to is to open those metal tabs, drop a dessicant packet in it for a couple days? how do you prevent it from happening again?

Leave the packs in there... put them in the back where the high beams are.

You don't have to mess with any of the metal tabs. On the very back of the lights (the part that is in the engine compartment), there are two black covers. The one towards the outside of the car is the low beam cover, and the one towards the center of the car is the high beam cover. Pick one of them and open it up. Then throw a couple dissent packets inside. VOILA! No more moisture!!

I don't have moisture problems, but my right side low beam cover shows light around the seal no matter what I do.

Gave away my BMWs, driving a VW and an Audi now.

I also have both problems. But lately after fiddling with the seals on the headlights, I haven't been getting any fog.

The situation with the drivers side HID not always coming on is incredibly annoying though.

Sounds like a bad ballast. Switch your ballasts and see if the problem follows to the other side.

I had the same issue, sometimes it would come on, sometimes it wouldn't. Switched passenger side to drivers, and the drivers side started having the same issue.. so, it was obviously the ballast.

It should be warrantied regardless of whether you bought it from habbie or DDM.

I'm still waiting on a call back from them, I know they're busy so I'm trying to be patient

The driver's side not turning on is becoming more prevalent as well as irritating

Haha oddly enough I have the same headlights and I experience the same problem. Although the fogging up has gone away the ballast problem has not. Its extremely annoying and keeps happening. Let me know what they tell you.

I have moisture problems everytime it rains. Correct me if im wrong but a dissent packet is paper? Wont that have tendancy to burn?

to those of US that are having the problem with the HID on the driver side not lighting up, do what was suggested here, switch them to the other side and see if the problems follow the ballast, if it does then call DDM and get it replaced, if the problem doesn't follow the ballast and keep happening in the same side, then check your connections and everything else!

this is what I'm going to do since it happened again yesterday and today, on an interesting note, yesterday and today was raining like hell coming down so I think that has something to do with this problem.

ddm 55w slim ballasts and the driver side is also not starting up from time to time, checked the connections and all is fine. It's really annoying when you have to flick your headlights on and off a few times before both come on...is there an easy fix to this?

as long as you don't do anything stupid like try to shove them inside the projector you should be fine!

just undo the high/low beam cover and slip the packet in right there and you're good to go!
