- informatie in het Nederlands ANNA - Information in het Nederlands -
Sei Arimori and Annie Brasseur were creating for the first time art together reëren voor het for the first time a number of monumental works for and tailored to the chruch Sint-Anna-ten-Drieen: a large mobile on the ceiling, a monumental tree sculpture, long canvases about sun and moon, day and night, ...
This exhibition shows the works of a Japanese artist and a Belgian artist: Sei Arimori and Annie Brasseur. They live and work in Doornik in their studio. Each starting from their own background and talents are they in search of spiritual truth, and through this search they enrich each other. Johan Sebastian Bach functions as their inspirational guide in this search.
a Vision of MA 2014 (Sei Arimori - Annie Brasseur)exhibition 'MA'
"Ma" is the theme of this exhibition and the connection between Annie's and Sei's oeuvre. The things both artists try to pursue they both recognize through the richness of this Japanese concept. The Japanese word "Ma" has several meanings.
The most common translations are space and time.
'Ma' is the emptiness full of possibilities, as a promise that must happen.
'Ma' is the essence that makes minimalism possible.
'Ma is in the quiet time where we give our busy lives meaning and the rest between the notes of the music.
' Ma' is and manifestes itself in Japanese living architecture, garden design, music, flower arrangement, and poetry.

With the "Ma" concept in mind both artists Sei Arimori and Annie Brasseur could link without effort the worship of the church Sint-Anna-ten-Drieën. A bridge was built between earth and heaven.
They elaborated on this theme with monumental creations that they (for the first time really together) created and customized for the Church:

  • a large mobile installation between heaven and earth (attached to the roof of the church and the stained glass windows)
  • een lange schildering in vele panelen in zilver (maan, nacht) en goud (zon, dag)
  • a large tree in front of the church that seems to grow in the form of a cross st.-Francis of Assisi to the sky
  • a stainless steel plant in the belfry
  • a week chapel as a treasury with dozens of smaller works by both artists

Sei Arimori graduated as Master of Arts at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. He
combines Japanese tradition with painting techniques from the Flemish Middle-Ages and Italian
Renaissance. He adopted the old techniques of Eastern and Western masters: he works with tempera,
pigments, turpentine and glaze, a colorless coat applied onto a hand-dried coat. Also the old masters'
use of gold leaf inspires him. He paints abstract works and creates mystical almost timeless worlds. He manipulates light and shadow and plays with the reflection of gold, the symbol of life and spirituality in all cultures.
He teaches at the academy of Tokyo, had solo and group expositions in Tokyo, Fukushima, Paris, Washington and Brussels among other places..

Annie Brasseur is a Belgian sculptor from Doornik. Her seemingly simple sculptures are surprisingly complex and make use of the tension between different materials. She combines the flexibility of one material with the durability of the other. She wants to expose the structure and rhythm in the shapes she creates.
Mathematical and geometric patterns structure her creations. The materials she uses are wood, plastic and metal. She tends to place her works in the open air. Her abstract works look for the mysteries hiding behind the visible. Following her sculptures, Annie also designs city furniture, fashion accessories and jewelry. She was educated at the Académie de Beaux-Arts at Charleroi.
She exposed in several solo and group exhibitions in Namur, Brussels, Antwerp, Hong-Kong, The Netherlands among other places.
